PRODUCTS, POINT STYLES AND THEIR USAGE

Cam-Tech Industries manufacturers a vast array of socket set screws in different point styles for multiple industries. Such as, Commercial, Military and Aerospace industries. Please don’t hesitate to contact us for a quote or with any questions you may have.

VARIOUS POINT STYLES OF SOCKET SET SCREWS USED IN THE MILITARY, AEROSPACE, AND COMMERCIAL INDUSTRY

Are a type of externally threaded headless fastener with an internal drive that fastens two components together by compression. On the opposite end of the internal drive, there is a point style. Those point styles are either a Plain Cup, Knurled Cup, Flat, Oval, Cone, Half or Full Dog Points.

CUP POINT

Most frequently used in parts when a permanent or semi-permanent setting location is desired on a shaft. A hardness differential of R/C 15 minimum is recommended, thus allowing the cup edge to cut into the shaft for maximum holding power.

KNURLED CUP POINT

Most frequently used where vibration is a problem in securing pulleys, collars, or knobs onto shafts when a permanent or semi-permanent setting is desired.

FLAT POINT

Most frequently used on steel shafts when minimum damage to the mating shaft is important. The bearing contact will improve with shafts having ground flats.

OVAL POINT

Most frequently used on soft or hardened shafts when minimum damage to the mating shaft is important. This point style is also recommended for permanent or semi-permanent setting on a grooved or countersunk shaft.

CONE POINT

Most frequently used on soft or hardened shafts. A hardness differential of R/C 15 minimum is recommended, thus allowing the cone to penetrate the shaft for maximum axial and torsional power.

HALF OR FULL DOG POINT

Most frequently used for permanent setting in which the point fits into a drilled hole or against a flat surface. We recommend that the hole be in close tolerance with the point diameter when using on a shaft to minimize a “bell mouth” condition of the hole that can occur with frequent startups.

The Socket Set Screws that we manufacture can be made out of various materials. The most common are Alloy, Stainless, Brass and Aluminum. We accept orders for sizes that range from #0 through 5/8” diameters and Metric sizes M1.6 through M16. There is a vast array of applications for Socket Set Screws within the Electronics, Aerospace, Military, Computer, Automotive, Optical, and Instrumentation Industries amongst others.

JAM SCREWS

Also known as: Hollow Lock Screws are a type of externally threaded headless fastener that locks other set screws in place, hold pins, and adjusts spring tension. The socket will be fully through the screw resembling a “donut”. Jam Screws can be made out of various materials. We mainly manufacture from Alloy and Stainless. Our most typical orders are anywhere between #4 and 5/8” diameters. There is a vast array of applications for Jam Screws within the Electronics, Aerospace, Military, Computer, Automotive, Optical, Medical, and Instrumentation Industries amongst others.

SPLINE SOCKET SET SCREWS

Are a type of externally threaded headless fastener with an internal spline type of socket. The Spline socket may have 4 or 6 splines (teeth). Typically made out Alloy and Stainless, although other materials would be available. The most common orders we accept are for sizes that range from 0 through 1/4” diameters. There is a vast array of applications for Spline Socket Set Screws within the Electronics, Aerospace, Military, Computer, Automotive, Optical, Medical, and Instrumentation Industries amongst others.

HEXAGON SOCKET SET SCREWS

Are a type of externally threaded headless fastener with an internal Hex shaped socket. Hexagon socket set screws are typically made out Alloy and Stainless, although other materials would be available. The most common orders we accept are for sizes that range from 0 through 5/8” diameters. There is a vast array of applications for Hexagon Socket Set Screws within the Electronics, Aerospace, Military, Computer, Automotive, Optical, Medical, and Instrumentation Industries amongst others.

ZINC PLATED SOCKET SET SCREWS

Are made out of Alloy Steel. This is where a Zinc plating is applied to the surface to aid in corrosion protection. There is a vast array of applications for Zinc Plated Socket Set Screws within the Electronics, Aerospace, Military, Computer, Automotive, Optical, Medical, and Instrumentation Industries amongst others.

CADMIUM PLATED SOCKET SET SCREWS

Are made out of Alloy Steel. This is where a Cadmium plating is applied to the surface to aid in corrosion protection. Cadmium is primarily used for the Military due to its superior corrosion protection when compared to Zinc. There is a vast array of applications for Cadmium Plated Socket Set Screws within the Aerospace and Military Industries.

SELF-LOCKING SOCKET SET SCREWS

Are made out of Alloy and Stainless. A process of adding a locking element to the thread in the form of a Nylon Patch, Pellet or Strip to aid in the prevention of the socket set screw from either loosening or backing out of the installation. There is a vast array of applications for Self-Locking Socket Set Screws within the Electronics, Aerospace, Military, Computer, Automotive, Optical, Medical, and Instrumentation Industries amongst others.

We can provide sizes that range from #0 through 5/8” diameters with the above criteria.
